Stefan Ambrosius

Stefan Ambrosius was born in Trier (Rhineland-Palatinate) in 1976. He received his first tenor horn lessons from his father at the age of 12 and switched to the tuba at the age of 16. He began his music studies with Lennart Nord in Saarbrücken in 1999 and then studied with Prof Stefan Heimann in Stuttgart, where he graduated in 2005. As a student, he was already a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the Bachakademie Stuttgart and had a temporary contract at the Stuttgart State Opera from 2001 to 2005. He has appeared as a guest conductor with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, SWR Stuttgart and SWR Baden-Baden/Freiburg as well as numerous other opera houses in Germany. In addition to his orchestral activities, he has been active as a chamber musician, including as a permanent member of the Ludwigsburg Brass Quintet (LBQ) and as a guest of the HR-Brass ensemble. Since 2005 he has had a permanent engagement at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and is a member of Opera Brass. He is a teaching assistant to Prof Stefan Heimann at the Stuttgart University of Music. He has been a permanent member of German Brass since 2007.
