Benny Brown was born on 1 May 1983 in Münster (Westphalia). He grew up in a family of musicians, he learnt to play the piano in his early childhood before discovering the trumpet at the age of 16. After four years of classical lessons with Achim Böder, Benny became the first first flugelhorn player and trumpet player in the Air Force Music Corps III. to study trumpet in Hamburg, where he was taught by Ingolf Burkhardt (jazz), Lennart Axelsson (lead) and Eckhard Schmidt (classical). At this time time, he was already playing with the NRW State Youth Jazz Orchestra and and later the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer, Marco Lackner, Bill Dobbins and Ed Partyka international tours and has been engaged for numerous concerts and CD productions for the NDR Bigband.
In the meantime, Benny, who has long since established himself as a highly esteemed all-round trumpeter’ in the international scene, can look back on an almost endless list of live list of live engagements and studio/TV sessions. For example, he was the soloist on the film score for ‘Der Staat gegen Fritz Bauer’, a permanent member of the Roger Cicero big band, played MTV unplugged productions by Revolverheld, Santiano and Christina Stürmer, at the German Film Award, Pop Meets Classic, at the Federal Press Ball and, together with and performed with his band at the Federal President’s Christmas concert in 2021. In May 2014, he released his debut CD ‘Brown’ with his quartet, the ‘Benny Brown Band’, with whom he has already played at numerous festivals. In the same year, Benny became a B&S Artist and has since given many exclusive concerts and workshops. Benny plays his own ‘Personality Benny Brown (PBB)’ trumpet model.
From 2018-24 Benny was a lecturer for jazz trumpet at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and taught piano minor and section play trumpet at the HfMT Hamburg. Since 2017 Benny has been part of the teaching team at ‘Brassweek Samedan’. Benny currently plays with Niedeckens BAP, on the show ‘Sing meinen Song’, with the “Fetten Hupe” and in the “Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra”.
