Prof. Edgar Manyak

Edgar Manyak grew up in a family of musicians. He was born in Sibiu, Romania, in 1967. He took up playing the trombone at the age of 10. He studied in Berlin, Trossingen and Freiburg im Breisgau. Prof. Johann Doms and Prof. Branimir Slokar were his teachers. During that time, he successfully entered several important competitions, such as the “Prague Spring International Music Competition”.

After graduating, Edgar Manyak committed himself to chamber music projects as well as solo projects for several years. He was a member of the Slokar trombone quartet for more than 10 years. Since 1996, he has been principal trombone at the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, he held the same position at the Staatskapelle Dresden. He is a guest member of the brass ensemble Ludwig Güttler.

Manyak is a professor at the Academy of Music in Basel and is regularly invited to teach master classes and give solo concerts in Germany, Switzerland, China and Japan.
